Costa Rica now part of the coalition of the willing.

Heard it on the news last night that they are one of the "new" 15 countries to join.

With so many Costa Rican posters here I am curious what the reaction is there. Is most of the public in support of the war? Was the government strongarmed into voicing US support? What do you think?

 

Maybe Costa Rica can send a million Nicas out to fight Arabs instead of each other?

 

This is actually the first time I hear this, I didnt have much time to read the paper this morning so perhaps it was on there but I didnt see it.

I know Costa Rica was opposed to invading Iraq but apparently was being 'blackmailed' by the US government with some kind of economic backlash if they didn't voice their support.....


Many people here dont agree with attacking Iraq and see it as part of the same arrogance that has led them before to attack other coutnries in the world....

Costa Rica is famous for not having a millitary and I mean zero ziltch. Also about half of the other countries contributed a letter saying they support the U.S. action and that is it. Big deal

I know. Eritrea and Ethiopia, for example, are having a border dispute, and once Eritrea sucked up to the US, Ethiopia decided they had to or the US might side with the Eritrians in the border dispute.

Costa Rica really had little choice, it could have proven costly to disagree. The biggest risk was having international banking limited or cut off.

Costa Rica jumping on the bandwagon is just a token gesture to avoid problems with the U.S. government. Costa Rica's not having a military, btw, is something they are proud of, and rightly so.

A lot of your tax dollars will be spread out among all these Johnny Come Lately so called coalition partners, when the only two countries with any thing at stake are the US and England. Even Australia has only a token involvement. How many Spanish, Dutch, Mexican or any other coalition country soilders will even leave home? Dubya needed to have a phony coalition so he said sign up or no more billions in US taxpayer foreign aid. So of course Costa Rica, the country with no military, signed up as part of the great coalition. You know the one formed to effect regime change in Iraq. It does'nt look like Saddam will be launching any WMD today, I hope everyone feels safer now than they did on say, Tuesday. I know I do. Have a nice day.

This "coalition of the willing (to commit war crimes)" is nothing more than a euphemistic gesture made in self-interest. Everyone knows that the US is NOT directly threatened by Iraq. They have NOT been provoked by Iraq. I would say that this information makes this an unjust war.
But I digress....
The country's on the list want US Aid; not to aid the US.
